MY META AWESOME POST!

 (Meta…Mega…Its a joke…)

My About Page!

So my About Page was my very first interaction with writing HTML. I was really confused at first, mainly because I had no idea what I was doing… It didn’t help that I had no interest in learning about it.

SO! I did some online tutorials and it got easier to write and to understand, BUT I was still having some troubles, so I talked to a couple of people in my tutorial and sorted everything out. The most trouble I had was trying the centre My About Page, but it was all sorted out. I couldn’t get the Google+, “+1” button to work, but I decided it would be a better effort spent working on trying to get my analytics to work.

When I made my Recipe Page, it was so much easier, and I wrote it all up, and posted it in about half an hour… I was actually super proud.

I chose a pre-made background for my main Blog, and for both of my self-made pages I based the design for them on my main page.

I also changed the colours of the main page to make it fit my cooking theme.

I wanted it all to match and look pretty! : D

I originally wanted to post about twice a week, but unfortunately due to my stomach giving me food poisoning just about every time I eat I could physically only cook once every few weeks…(As in, I was going to do at least one more post before I posted my  meta post, but the smell of the chocolate made me sick)

I tried to keep the posts short, simple and casual… I wanted them to be quick and easy, as were most of my recipes.

I also included pictures, because they show people what they will be cooking looks like, I took all the pictures myself (Or my dad did…He also always cleaned up for me!!!!) but they were all mine, so I didn’t need permission to use them, a choice I had made from the beginning. I also included pictures of my little puppy Howard for two reasons!

  1. He’s the cutest!
  2. I thought it would personalise my Blog.

I integrated a “Wibiya” bar into the main page of my Blog, because it was an easy and neat way to have a Facebook “Like” button, and a “Tweet” button to try and get attention from other social media sites for my Blog. I worked because I got over 60 “Likes” from my Facebook button, and from that a few people who followed my Blog. I also “Reblogged” a lot of posts from Tumblr to integrate my Blog in with the rest of the Tumblr Commnity.

I used a lot of very broad tags, that are often searched for in Google…(I used Google Ad Words to decide what words would bring people to my blog.)

I spent about a week fiddling with my HTML trying to get my analytics to work, and eventually I did, but it was after much frustration and searching on Google for tutorials for ideas to try…turns out it was as simple as changing the doctype from “doctype HTML” to “doctype HXTML”

My Google Analytics were very surprising, there are spikes on the days when I posted my Blog to my Facebook page, I’ve had almost 160 unique views to my Blog, and a total of 1,171 page views.

I also have a 0.0 Bounce Rate…Which as I said, surprised me

SEE I WASN’T LYING!!!!!

I now have about 30 followers and I will definitely continue my Blog after the assignment is over, if only to practise and learn more about HTML, which now I find actually quite interesting, and as nerdy as it seems…Its kind of fun.

Bye from both Howard and I!
